The ANDers Summit

Changing Pathways into Possibilities for Non-Traditional Students

Upcoming ANDers Summit:

Washington D.C.

June 25, 2026

It's Time to
See ANDers.

Because You Can’t Serve Students You Don’t See.

Imagine This.

Jessica is a mom of two, working full-time and taking online classes at night. Brandon is a veteran navigating the transition to civilian life while pursuing a cybersecurity degree.

These are the ANDers, students balancing education AND life.

They’re not the exception. They’re the rule.

Since the 1990s, ANDers have made up the majority of college students in the U.S., yet higher education still treats them like outliers.

At the ANDers Summit, we’re building a new roadmap for higher education — one that sees ANDers, supports them, and helps them succeed.

At the ANDers Summit we'll reimagine:

Policy

Funding and metrics that reflect real student lives

Practice

Flexible, responsive systems that meet students where they are

Partnership

Collaborations that extend impact beyond the classroom

Participation in the ANDers Summit will also contribute to a broader research project aimed at understanding the unique needs and challenges faced by ANDers. Insights gathered during the summit may be included in publications or other forms of media to help inform future practices and support strategies tailored to this community.

"Every big idea, every big action that's meaningful starts with a day like today. It's a chance for leaders in the community to get together, and think about how we can better serve students and meet them where they are with the needs that they have."

"There's magic that happens when you bring people together from different industries, different experiences, and the innovative ideas that they can create together."

Why We Need to See ANDers

Burst orange.png

When we say “college student,” most people picture an 18-year-old on a leafy campus. But that image leaves out millions of learners who don’t fit the mold.

ANDers face:

  • Limited access to flexible, high-quality education

  • Competing priorities: jobs, kids, deployments, caregiving

  • Outdated systems designed for traditional students

  • Policies and metrics that ignore their reality

They’re often invisible. And when you’re invisible, it’s easy to feel like you don’t belong.
